My tattoo career
The progression of my tattoo career.
After being labeled as “the Giger guy” early in my career, I grew tired of constantly repeating designs Giger had already illustrqated on paper. Tattoos have a whole different set of contrast and focus requirements, and only repeating someone else’s work can grow stale.
My first dip back into that arena in years was when an earlier customer of mine wanted a machinery-steampunk-inspired sleeve. The meticulous detail and my love of machinery inspired me to approach the project with a new perspective.
A lot of artists hate the repetitive detail of cogs and gears. I remember fellow tattooer Tom Taylor (viewing the piece after I had just completed a session and remarking, “Yeah fuck that”.
Maybe it’s my OCD, but I enjoyed the challenge.
