Black Static Magazine out of the UK, formerly titled “The Third Alternative” and relaunched in 2007, first contacted me in 2011 to illustrate one of their stories. Entitled Extraneous, I used the old school method of elaborate coloring (before computer coloring became the go-to method), of printing the illustration on watercolor paper, using watercolors, then printing the illustration also on a transparency, and laying that overtop of the painting so the lines popped back out. I remember Mike Zeck doing this back in the day, and the method always stuck with me.
