I saw Europa Report, which only reminded me of complex creatures buried under the ice, and that sent me down a rabbit hole exploring ice-encrusted planets with liquid water. Sci-fi books, magazines and movies were a large source of inspiration, and I had one of my primary alien races in my novel The End of the World based in the watery depths of a frozen planet.
