When I was a little kid, we were shuttled around between army bases, and we were too broke to have a TV. That was probably a good thing! I’d hit the local library every week, check out this huge stack of books, and have them all read by my visit the next week! In those days, most of what was available in straight-up horror was pretty cheesy, and most sci-fi fell into repetitive clichés
Sure, there were some standouts like Dune or Dracula, but that was the rare exception.
Until I read my first Lovecraft compilation, and that changed my entire world!
For my short story ‘Watching the World Burn”, in my collection of short stories “Down Highways in the Dark…by Demons Driven”, I envision one of the librarians as some child-eating monster, which probably isn’t too far from reality…
