I just finished the book Old Man’s War
by John Scalzi, and I was really surprised at how good it was. It was the first book in a while that broke the mold and exceeded my expectations. Just a well crafted, clever story, that despite being 12 years old does not fumble over the science and come off as antiquated. After I was let down by acclaimed “Ender’s Game” and “The Atlantis Gene”, this restored my faith in a genre that all too often falls into cartoonish and awkward tropes that only appeal to the faithful. Plus it has a John Harris cover-how can you go wrong with that?
