Back in the days when indie comics were blowing up after the trendsetting debut of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, I first envisioned debuting The Black Seas of Infinity as a graphic novel. Permuted Press and Kitchen Sink Press expressed interest in the first 3-page proposal but folded before we could proceed. I tried Caliber, Eclipse, and Mirage, but they also folded.

Drafting a new 3-page proposal, I interviewed with DC Comics, but they were on the verge of bankruptcy in those days, and only wanted me to draw their main characters.

so I went with the illustrated novel format instead, which I’ve maintained to this day.
